1. Choose The Best Resume Format
Firstly, you must decide on the basic format of your resume. Basically there are 3 types of resume formats.
1) Reverse chronological resume format – This is the most popular resume format. It is recruiters’ favorite. Those with plenty of work experience that is relevant to the position they’re interested in must opt for this.
2) Functional resume format – If you lack relevant work experience or you are a student/recent graduate, the skills-based format is a better choice.
3) Combination resume format – The combination resume is a splendid choice for job-seekers with a very diverse skill-set.

This is the most common one, and most HR managers are used to this.
Whatever you choose, ensure that your resume has the following elements-
- Single page length. You should only go for 2 pages when you have 10+ years of relevant experience and you really, really believe that it’ll add significant value. Else the HR managers not going to spend their valuable time reading your life story!
- Section headings. Pick a heading (H2, for example) and ensure that you use it for all the section headers.
- Plenty of white-space- make sure you add it, especially around the margins.
- Easy-to-read font- Use the professional font styles such as Times Roman, Calibri, Arial, Corbel. Do not use comic sans or other fancy fonts. Opt for 11 – 12 pt for normal text, and 14 – 16 pt for section titles.

- Company Name / Location / Description – Next, you have to mention the name of the relevant employer. You may also add the location of the office you work or have worked in.
- Achievements and Responsibilities – This is the most crucial part of each work experience entry.
- Dates Employed – The standard format expected by employers is mm/YYYY (this is especially important when your job application has to scanned by an Applicant Tracking System).
